Burton Chace Park and the scenic boating community of Marina del Rey will be filled with attractions and family fun at Discover Marina del Rey 2004, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 10th.

Burton Chace Park is at 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey. Admission is free, but there is a charge for parking and children’s games.

The event is organized yearly by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors.

A popular attraction with children each year at Discover Marina del Rey is the array of towering inflatable slides and games to play on, in and around.

A $5 wristband gives the kids free rein to the inflatable games of their choice. Also, snacks and a pumpkin from a mock pumpkin patch are included in the wristband price.

Attractions and performances include puppeteering with the Bob Baker Marionettes, boat races, and an air/sea rescue demonstration by the United States Coast Guard and the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Department.

The lifeguards and Coast Guard members stage a mock rescue of a person stranded at sea. They bring the person to safety, demonstrating lifeguard rescue techniques. Next, a Coast Guard helicopter lowers a cable and a basket-like device and airlifts the person away, according to county officials.

The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control will bring its Adopt-a-Pet Program to the event for animals needing a home — and for families looking to add an extra member or two.

Live music at the event will include the Venice High School Allegros choral group, under the direction of Wendy Kornbeck, at 12:30 p.m., along with the Susie Hansen Latin Jazz Band from 1 to 3 p.m.

Children’s storytime sessions are scheduled to be held at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.

Discover Marina del Rey was started as a booster for tourism and to welcome members of surrounding communities to the Marina, county officials say.

Parking is available for $5 at Los Angeles County Lot #4 near Burton Chace Park.
