The American Red Cross of Santa Monica’s “Red Tie Affair” recognized the 90 years of serv-ice the Santa Monica chapter of the American Red Cross has provided to the community.

The gala was held at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel, 101 Wil-shire Blvd. in Santa Monica, Saturday, March 24th.

It was “an inspiring evening of fine dining, music and entertainment and lived up to its promise of being the most talked about Santa Monica social event of the year,” a Red Cross Santa Monica chapter official said.

Fox Broadcasting Company and the House, M.D. television series and its star Hugh Laurie were special honorees for their support of the American Red Cross. Laurie and most of the cast of the TV series were on hand to accept the awards.

Additional honorees were Dr. Janet K. Salomonson and Dr. Lisa Masterson. Santa Monica City Councilman Bobby Shriver presented the Rick Crocker Spirit of Volunteerism to Santa Monica Police Department Detective Don Doss, for his work with the elderly community.

In addition to the awards, both live and silent auctions were held. Vacations, original artwork, rare sports memorabilia and a Maurice Lacroix watch were all up for bid.

Chef, author and TV show host Nick Stellino created a three-course gourmet dinner of pasta with pine nuts, raisins and tomato entrÈe, fish in red wine sauce main course and a chocolate zabaglione with marinated strawberry dessert, according to the official.

Stellino hosts a number of cooking series on the Public Broadcasting System and is the author of seven cookbooks on Italian and Mediterranean cooking.

The event was a sell-out with 350 people attending, at $175 per ticket, according to the Red Cross.

The “Red Tie Affair” benefited the American Red Cross of Santa Monica, which is celebrating 90 years of service, and American Red Cross month.

The American Red Cross of Santa Monica is a publicly supported, 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides health and safety education, youth services, blood services, CPR and first aid training, disaster awareness and disaster relief efforts.
