Loyola Marymount University (LMU) has announced the selection of Anthony M. Bonta as its new campus director of ministry.

Bonta has a Bachelor of Science from St. Meinrad College in Meinrad, Indiana and holds a master’s degree in divinity from the University of St. Mary on the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois. He is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in theology at Marquette University in Wisconsin.

“I am excited to join the LMU ministry team,” said the new director. “Together with the other members, I look forward to reaching out and serving the campus community.”

The appointment comes after a five-month nationwide search to replace Fernando Moreno, who retired after 14 years as director of campus ministry.

“Tony comes to us from another strong Jesuit university and will bring with him a rich personal experience of Ignatian spirituality,” said Robert V. Caro, S.J., the school’s vice president of mission and ministry.

The newly appointed Bonta has served as director of the Newman Center at the University of Evansville in Indiana and as dean of student affairs at Springfield College in Illinois. While at Marquette, he served for two years as director of a student residential community that focused on academic, personal and interpersonal growth.

Bonta will officially become director of campus ministry on Friday, June 1st.
