The Abbot Kinney District Association has an open call for poster art to commemorate the 24th annual Abbot Kinney Festival Sunday, September 28th.

The winning artwork will be featured as the festival poster and placed on T-shirts.

The artist will receive a $500 cash prize for the poster and possibly an additional $100 for T-shirt adaptation.

Entries must be postmarked by Friday, April 25th, and the poster contest winner will be announced Thursday, May 15th.

Festival planners say the free one-day event attracts more than 150,000 attendees.

It also features more than 300 arts and crafts vendors, community organizations, three stages of music and entertainment, a youth and family courtyard, and food and drink.

This year’s theme emphasizes volunteering and connection with the community.

As 2008 is an election year, planners expect organizations representing aspects of the democratic process to participate.

While entries don’t necessarily have to follow the community involvement theme, they must include Venice’s spirit and an image of Abbot Kinney.

The rules stipulate that all artwork must be original and previously unpublished and that it becomes the property of the Abbot Kinney District Association.
