Photographe Skimtastique, an art show combining photography, prints, oil on canvas, and athletes in costume and body art, all inspired by the women of skimboarding, will be held Friday, June 3 at Angels on Abbot Kinney gallery in Venice.

The show is presented by SkimChicks, a grassroots community organization dedicated to elevating and legitimizing the sport of female skimboarding.

The event will showcase the body paintings of Lanakila Kelliher of Lanakila Creations, combined with the photography of Monique Feil. Additional artworks are contributed by Shauna Marincik, who has documented the SkimChicks previously, and esoteric oil paintings by Sheila Jacobs, mother of accomplished female skimboarder Jen Jacobs.

Every piece featured in the show is inspired by the sport of inland and ocean skimboarding.

SkimChicks’ goal in collaborating with Kelliher, Feil, Marincik and Jacobs is to provide a medium that can combine the physical prowess of the female athletes with the talents and vision of the artists, a spokesperson for the organization says. The female athletes – all vying for recognition in their sport – are placed in a compelling light through the works, the spokesperson says.

“This is an inspirational view into the world of women’s skimboarding,” said Richard Tibbetts, co-founder of SkimChicks. “These athletes are stepping out for what they really want – their own professional tour.”

The show is produced by 360 Shuvit Productions. The Angels on Abbot Kinney gallery is at 1744 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice.

All show times and additional venues are posted on the SkimChicks website,
