The Artisan Venice gallery will present Sponto Evolution Two, an art show celebrating the birthday of the late Mark “Sponto” Kornfeld, founder of Venice’s Sponto Gallery, from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28.

A gallery spokesman called the first Sponto Evolution show at Artisan Venice in July “a cultural revolution of creativity.”

Featuring Venice painters, photographers, musicians and poets, the Sponto Evolution event celebrates the spirit of Kornfeld, who died in December 2008 at the age of 59.

Artist/curator Sponto nurtured the creative community of Venice for 24 years at his 7 Dudley Ave. gallery, the Artisan Venice spokesman said. This venue was the same home of the infamous Venice West Cafe, a place where Beat poets would gather to read their works from 1958 to 1966.

The Artisan Venice gallery is at 80 Windward Ave., Venice. Admission is free.
