The Los Angeles City Council Wednesday, June 30th, voted to accept the nomination of Marina del Rey attorney David Voss and two others to the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners. The seven-member airport commission sets policy for four airports owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles — Los Angeles International, Palmdale Regional, Van Nuys and Ontario International. The city agency operating the airports is Los Angeles World Airports. Voss is filling a vacancy created by the resignation of former commissioner Ted Stein. Voss’s term runs until June 30, 2006. Tuesday Voss also completed a term as president of the Westchester/LAX-Marina del Rey Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as an member of the Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa del Rey board. “The plans for the future of Los Angeles International Airport balance the needs and the safety of the traveler with the needs of our local community and respond to future regional demands for transportation,” Voss said. Voss has also been affiliated with the Venice-Marina Rotary Club and the Venice High School Circle of Supporters. This year, the Venice Boys & Girls Club honored Voss as the Community Leader of the Year. Incorrect rates that will be charged in Marina del Rey parking lots during the July 4th fireworks show were published in last week’s Argonaut. The new rates for parking in county parking lots in the Marina now range from $5 to $6. Parking rates in county parking lots in the Marina were recently increased when county beach parking lot rates were increased. The World Airline Historical Society 28th annual Airline International Convention will be held Thursday through Saturday, July 8th through 10th, at the Los Angeles Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Westchester. The event features an airline collectibles show that is open to the public. Airline memorabilia items will be on display with many of the items available for sale, including airplane models, postcards, advertisements, timetables, uniforms, china service, flatware, safety cards; and marketing and promotional items from current and past airlines, organizers say. Attendees will have the opportunity to fly on an antique DC3 airplane on special tours that include visits to the Mojave Airplane graveyard; the Chino Airport, home to many antique airplanes; the Long Beach Airport; a Boeing plant and the Alteon Simulators.
