Ruth Lansford, president of Friends of Ballona Wetlands, has received the Citizen Planner Distinguished Leadership Award from the American Planning Association (APA).

The association honored Lansford last week at its annual meeting for her work in trying to save the Ballona Wetlands.

Before winning the national Citizen Planner Distinguished Leadership Award, Lansford had been selected to receive a local award from the American Planning Association.

“I never expected to be nominated on the national level, much less to win it,” Lansford said. “But this award really belongs to all our volunteers without whose help and dedication the Ballona Wetlands would have died long ago.”

Lansford also thanked Friends of Ballona Wetlands executive director Otella Wruck and the board of directors.
