In high school baseball playoff games:
The Westchester High School Comets were defeated 2-0 by host Crenshaw High School in the first round of the Los Angeles City Section Invitational Division playoffs Wednesday, May 21st.
It was the first loss in seven games for the Comets, who defeated Venice High 4-3 in their last game of the regular season.
The two teams were scoreless in the first three innings but Crenshaw picked up the game-winning runs in the fourth inning and held Westchester scoreless from there.
The Comets finished in second place in the Western League this year with a league record of 9-6 and ended the season with an overall record of 13-13.
In high school softball playoff games:
The Ocean League champion Santa Monica High School Vikings ended their season after a 3-0 loss to visiting Crescenta Valley High School in the Southern Section Division III quarterfinals Thursday, May 22nd.
It was the first loss in seven games for the Vikings, who defeated California High 6-0 and Sonora High 3-1 in the first and second round of the playoffs.
The Vikings captured the league championship this year with an undefeated league record of 10-0 and finished the season with an overall record of 23-9.
