In high school boys basketball games:

The Westchester High School Comets were held to just two points in the third quarter, as host Fairfax High School took advantage and closed out with a 51-48 victory to hand the Comets their first defeat of the season Wednesday, December 13th.

The Comets (5-1) took a 24-21 lead at halftime, but were frozen on offense in the third quarter, when Fairfax surged ahead with 20 points.

Westchester turned things around in the fourth quarter by picking up 22 points, but Fairfax was able to hold on for the Western League win over its rival.

Senior Dane Suttle led Westchester with 11 points. Dwayne Polee contributed ten points and Isaiah Jenkins added nine points.

The Venice High School Gondoliers grabbed their first victory in four games with a 74-65 win over Bosco Tech High School in the San Fernando Valley Invitational tournament Monday, December 18th.

St. Bernard High School senior center Clarence Ellington scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Vikings to a 62-51 victory over Narbonne High School in the St. John Bosco Tournament Saturday, December 16th.

The Vikings (6-3) narrowly trailed 26-25 at halftime, but scored 20 points in the third quarter to take the lead and secured the victory with 17 points in the final quarter.

Senior center Cyprion Adoh finished with 14 points and seven rebounds for St. Bernard and junior guard Devin Price was the other double-digit scorer in the game with ten points.

Santa Monica High School earned its seventh consecutive victory with a 66-43 victory over host Mira Costa High School Tuesday, December 12th.

The Vikings (8-1) will next play against host Torrance High School at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 21st.

The St. Monica High School Mariners earned a dominating 47-25 victory over Rolling Hills Prep in the Windward Winter Classic Monday, December 18th.

The Mariners (7-4), who had a 20-9 lead at halftime, held Rolling Hills to single-digit point totals in each of the four quarters.

Jonathon Azer led St. Monica with 12 points and Ryan Zelig added 11 points.

In high school girls basketball games:

The Westchester High School Comets defeated visiting Serra High School 46-34 in a non-league game Wednesday, December 13th.

The Comets (5-5) outscored Serra 13-8 in the first quarter and went into halftime with a 21-17 lead.

Olivia Reese led Westchester with 11 points and Malika Jones finished with ten points and five rebounds in the game.

The St. Monica High School Mariners suffered their fifth consecutive loss in a 59-46 defeat to Knight of Palmdale in the Girls Can Hoop Classic tournament Monday, December 18th.

Senior Alex Pegnato finished with a game-high 25 points for St. Monica (2-5), which trailed 31-27 at halftime.

Senior forward Melissa Palmieri added 13 points and ten rebounds for the Mariners.

Katy Keating scored 16 points to lead the Santa Monica High School Vikings to a 64-50 victory over host Peninsula High School in a non-league game Monday, December 18th.

The Vikings (6-5) were in the lead 25-22 at halftime and took control in the third quarter by outscoring Peninsula 19-10.

Jennie Harding finished with 13 points for the Vikings and Thea Lemberger and Emily Foshag each scored eight points in the game.
