The Good Hurt in Mar Vista will host a benefit event Friday, Dec. 17 for Venice Skateboard Association co-founder Jesse Martinez, whom organizers say was assaulted while working at the Venice Beach Skate Park.
The event is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the Good Hurt, 12249 Venice Blvd., Mar Vista.
Martinez, a professional skateboarder, is described by an event flyer as “the godfather of the Venice Skate Park” as one of the founders of the Venice Skateboard Association (VSA). The VSA spent 15 years lobbying Los Angeles city officials to create a beachfront skate park on the site of the former Venice Pavilion.
The Dennis “Polar Bear” Agnew Skate Park, which finally opened last year, has been highly successful and has had a big impact on the city’s youth, according to VSA.
Event organizers have scheduled a benefit to help raise funds for medical costs for Martinez, who has been devoted to the maintenance and security of the skate park since its opening.
The event will feature music by Neighborhood Watch, DJ Fluffy and the Venice All-Stars along with Tone Def Punk Rock Karaoke.
The benefit is sponsored by Dogtown Skateboards, Venice Originals, Juice Magazine, Indie on the Westside and the Good Hurt.
Admission is a $10 cover. Ages 21 and over.
