Master bluesman Guitar Shorty will return to Harvelle’s, 1432 Fourth St., Santa Monica, for a performance scheduled at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6.
Guitar Shorty will be performing songs from his latest Alligator Records release, “Bare Knuckle.” The album was produced by famed songwriter and bassist Wyzard, a member of Mother’s Finest who has toured with renowned musician Stevie Nicks and others.
Credited with influencing both Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy, Guitar Shorty recorded his first single produced by Willie Dixon in 1957 on the Cobra Records label.
Guitar Shorty was born David William Kearney on Sept. 8, 1939 in Houston, TX and raised in Kissimmee, Fla. by his grandmother. He began playing guitar as a young boy, excited by the sounds of B.B. King, Guitar Slim, T-Bone Walker and John Lee Hooker.
