of the Holidays’ is boat parade theme

Although it is still summer, many Marina del Rey boat owners are already thinking about how to decorate their boats for the 42nd Annual Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade, planned for Saturday, December 11th, says boat parade president Cindy Williams.

“It’s not too soon to start planning for the boat parade,” Williams said.

“Boaters who get their decorating ideas together now will allow themselves time to compete in a big way,” she adds.

The boat parade will be between 6 and 8 p.m. Saturday, December 11th. The theme for this year’s boat parade is “Sights and Sounds of the Holidays.”

The entry fee for personal boats is $25, but fees for past entrants will be waived for those who bring into the boat parade a personal boat that has never participated in the annual boat parade.

Boat parade officials call the new entry fee policy a “two-for-one deal.”

Entry fees for commercial boats are higher, with some depending on the length of the entry boat.

The boat parade organization is still offering opportunities for local businesses to participate in a street banner sponsorship, which will place the names of sponsoring businesses on banners hung on Marina streets prior to the boat parade.

Other sponsors will be able to ride on parade boats carrying a banner displaying the sponsors’ names.

Details on the boat parade and entry forms are available at anchorage dock master offices, Marina yacht clubs and on the boat parade Web site at:
