A 64-year-old man was found dead late Thursday, April 6th, in the water of G basin in Marina del Rey, near the boat on which he lived, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

The body of Richard Lee Creviston was discovered floating between two boats along the 1800 dock of G basin at 13575 Mindanao Way, just east of the Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club, Sheriff’s Department Marina del Rey Station Sgt. Scott Orr said.

A boater saw the body floating near an adjacent boat at about 11:30 p.m. and told sheriff’s deputies that the man was his neighbor, Orr said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene with a patrol boat and pulled the body out of the water.

Creviston, who was last seen by his neighbors at about 7 p.m. April 6th, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It appeared that he had been in there a while,” Orr said.

Creviston’s boat was undisturbed and there were no signs of foul play, Orr said.

Sheriff’s officials said Creviston appeared to be the victim of accidental drowning.

A county coroner spokesman said an autopsy was conducted but determination of the cause of death has been deferred, pending toxicology tests.
