The Boys & Girls Club of Venice hosted its annual Fine Arts Competition Jan. 18 at the We Are Venice Open House at the club.

The competition featured over 50 artworks by club members aged 6 to 18, with four members emerging as winners in the four age categories.

The winners and their artworks were: Alula Smith, 6, Lady Picasso; Hunter Eiden, 10, Red Trumpet; Micky Greenfield, 15, Core; and Josie Cordova, 18, Richard.

“We truly believe in the power of the arts at our club,” said Erikk Aldridge, club executive director. “Seeing the kids grow and flourish under the direction of our art director Lalo Marquez is truly amazing and the art competition highlights many hours of dedication.”

The National Fine Arts program is a year-round program that encourages artistic expression among club members ages 6 to 18 through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media and sculpture displayed at local and regional exhibits.

Seventeen Boys & Girls Club of Venice volunteers and donors judged this year’s competition.

Several of the winning artists and finalists will be recognized at the Youth of the Year ceremony Friday, Feb. 24 at Digital Domain, 300 Rose Ave., Venice.
