By finishing among the top six out of 28 candidates in the county, Perez earned $2,500 towards his college education, club officials said.
The event held at the California Science Center was attended by over 500 Boys & Girls Club donors, volunteers, staff and club members.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America Youth of the Year program is designed to promote and recognize outstanding teens’ service to their club and community, academic performance and contributions to family.
There are currently 28 Boys & Girls Clubs organizations in Los Angeles County serving over 100,000 youths annually in 112 neighborhoods. The two Los Angeles County winners moved on to the state competition in Sacramento.
