Santa Monica High School Theatre will present its production of the Tony Award-winning musical “RENT” at Barnum Hall on the high school campus beginning Thursday, February 18th through Saturday, February 27th.

The Broadway show RENT is a rock opera based on Giacomo Puccini’s “La Boheme.” The Santa Monica High production is directed by the school’s new theater director Darryl Hovis, co-founder of the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts in Culver City.

Hovis has collaborated with Samohi’s Musical Director Jeffrey Huls and Dance Director/Choreographer Nate Hodges for the musical. RENT marks the first time the three award winning directors have collaborated on a production.

Santa Monica High School’s production will showcase students ranging from freshman to seniors.

The school edition is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International and is performed entirely by students.

Six shows are scheduled at 7 p.m. February 18th, 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th, and at 2 p.m. February 27th. All tickets for the first show February 18th will be $10.
