After seven years at the Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Station, Capt. Reggie Gautt will be leaving on Sunday to take command of the Carson Sheriff’s Station.

Capt. Joe Stephen, former head of the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station and currently assigned to Sheriff’s headquarters, is expected to take over in Marina del Rey on Monday, Gautt said.

The move is a promotion for Gautt — even if he wasn’t pushing for it. At the Marina del Rey Station, which in addition to the harbor patrols Ladera Heights, Windsor Hills and View Park, Gautt oversaw about 80 deputies; at Carson that number will be closer to 200.

“I’m saddened to leave the marina, but also honored the department saw fit to move me to a larger command,” said Gautt, 55. “I really enjoyed my time in Marina del Rey. I’ve created a lot of relationships and a lot of fond memories of the people here.”

Gautt, who did his patrol training in Carson some 30 years ago, spent five years as a lieutenant in Marina del Rey before taking over the station’s top post.

In addition to various theft suppression efforts, Gautt said he was proud of strengthening the station’s partnership with the L.A. County Dept. of Beaches and Harbors, which earlier this year funded an extra patrol officer for the marina.
