The fourth annual CARE (Community Annual Race for Education) 5K fun run/walk event benefiting Del Rey area schools is scheduled Sunday, November 15th at Glen Alla Park, 4601 Alla Road, Del Rey.
The race is a fundraiser for four local elementary schools — Braddock Drive, Playa del Rey, Short Avenue, and Stoner Avenue. Last year, the schools received $20,000 in funding, which they used for physical education programs, student field trips, and a new library, an event spokesperson said.
This year’s event will kick off at 8 a.m. with the 5K run, followed by a fun 1K run for younger children at 9:30 a.m. The race course is a flat, fast course starting and ending at the park.
Trophies will be awarded to the fastest runners in each age category and Ronald McDonald will attend as well. Runners can begin signing in at 7 a.m.
“We are so grateful for the support of CARE 5K and the parents, children and community members of the four schools who run,” said Christine Ferreira, Stoner Avenue Elementary School assistant principal. “Their hard work helps us to send our children on field trips to see museums and cultural resources that many of them would not see otherwise.”
Registration for the run is $25, and all runners will receive a CARE 5K T-shirt and goody bag.
