Pier 44 Redevelopment up for Discussion Redevelopment agreements for Pier 44 and the Boatyard are going before the Small Craft Harbor Commission for approval on Wednesday, Jan. 13. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. at the Burton Chace Park Community Room, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey. The plan for Pier 44 at 4635 Admiralty Way includes a waterside Trader Joe’s specialty grocery store, a new location for the West Marine boating supplies store, an 8,000-square-foot restaurant space and a new headquarters for the South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club. It was approved last year by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors. The Boatyard Marina project at 13555 Fiji Way would reconfigure the existing marina with a reduction of 42 boat slips. It has yet to receive final county approval. The full agenda and meeting materials should be posted by Saturday at beaches.lacounty.gov. — Gary Walker   Elderly Woman Survives Westchester Blaze A 73-year-old woman was being treated for smoke inhalation during what firefighters described as a “heavy fire” at her Westchester home on Monday afternoon. Police fatally shoot suspect during altercation in Venice A man who reportedly fought with a bar bouncer and was harassing passersby near Windward and Pacific avenues in Venice was shot and killed Tuesday night during a scuffle with police. Officers from the LAPD’s Pacific Division responded to the intersection at 11 p.m. after receiving reports of the fight and the suspect’s aggression toward others, LAPD officer Jane Kim said. “Officers confronted the suspect and a physical alteration occurred, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. A man who was stabbed during the regular Sunday evening spectacle was transported to UCLA Medical Center with a single stab wound to his upper torso, according to police. Arrest made in disappearance of autistic Mar Vista teen Man charged with rape after girl, 15, was found Monday in Culver City A 15-year-old Mar Vista girl with autism who went missing on March 24 during a walk at the Mar Vista Recreation Center was found in Culver City on Monday, and now police have arrested a man accused of raping her during those three weeks away from home. LAPD officer Jack Richter said police initially detained several people in connection with the girl’s disappearance. KTLA 5 News and City News Service reported Tuesday that a 33-year-old Culver City man has been charged with raping the girl and is being held on $8 million bail. Few other details were available at press time. An 11-year-old girl diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder who went missing from an area group home on March 26 was found last Friday. Det. Keyshanette Gibson of the Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Station said the department is unable to release details about the girl’s disappearance or her condition.
