Santa Monica Conservancy docents will pay tribute to the late Marion Davies at a birthday celebration for the actress, philanthropist, famed party hostess and mistress of media tycoon William Randolph Hearst at the Annenberg Community Beach House Sunday, Jan. 8.
Docents will highlight the woman often celebrated as the “bubbles in a glass of champagne” as they give tours of Davies’ 1928 Julia Morgan designed guest house on the Annenberg Beach House property at 415 Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica. Jan. 3 would have been the actress’ 115th birthday.
Dressed in 1930s attire, docents will touch on many aspects of Davies’ life and personality that have escaped public notice, such as her business abilities, wide-ranging generosity, and her decades-long devotion as companion to Hearst, according to the conservancy.
Guests are invited to come in their favorite “Gold Coast era” attire or dress as if attending one of Davies’ famed costume parties. A photo booth equipped with amusing costume elements will also be available for guests’ enjoyment.
The guest house will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a special tribute scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free but space is limited.
