The Los Angeles City Fire Department’s Westside Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers will hold a free presentation featuring the most current information on earthquake scenarios and how to prepare, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 23rd at the training room of Fire Station 5, 8900 S. Emerson Ave., Westchester.

The featured speaker will be Mark Benthien, director for communication, education, and outreach for the Southern California Earthquake Center and the executive director for the Earthquake Country Alliance. Benthien will provide information on how to increase earthquake awareness, reduce economic losses and save lives.

CERT is one of several volunteer organizations that assist LAFD, with members trained in emergency first aid and other emergency skills including fighting small fires, light search and rescue, and triage.

CERT classes are free and open to all. They are offered year-round at locations throughout the city.

The June 23rd meeting is sponsored by the Community Emergency Response Teams from West Los Angeles, representing CERT volunteers in LAFD Battalions 4, 9 and18.
