Chanukah this year begins at sunset Tuesday, December 4th, and lasts until Wednesday, December 12th. Listed below are scheduled services, including some for the whole community.
BETH SHIR SHOLOM — The Santa Monica Synagogue Beth Shir Sholom will celebrate with the whole community for Chanukah.
Friday, December 7th, The Chanukah Shabbat will include goodies for the kids and traditional tunes and original music by Rabbi Neil Comess-Daniels and Cantor Ken Cohen. Beth Shir Sholom will have gifts for all, including Cantor Ken Cohen’s own CD of Chanukah tunes.
Saturday, December 8th, Beth Shir Sholom’s Rabbi and Cantor will light the fifth candle of Chanukah on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica at 4:45 p.m. There will be Chanukah gifts for all and a sing-along of community favorites, including Tom Lehrer’s signature tune, “Chanukah in Santa Monica,” after the lighting.
At 5:30 p.m. Sunday, December 9th, there will be a “joyous Chanukah family party” at the shul, Beth Shir Sholom, 1827 California Ave., Santa Monica. Guests are asked to bring their own picnic supper, chanukiah (Chanukah menorah), and enough candles for the lighting of the sixth night. Beth Shir Sholom will provide latkes and sufganiot (traditional Israel jelly doughnuts), plus 3-D glasses for candle-lighting magic.

WINTERLIT HOLIDAY EVENTS — There will be a Menorah lighting ceremony every evening of Chanukah during the Santa Monica Winterlit program. Candles will be lit at 4:45 p.m. on the 1300 block of the Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica.

CHABAD OF MARINA DEL REY — Chabad of Marina del Rey Jewish Communities is hosting the first annual Chanukah Celebration on the Sea Sunday, December 9th.
Participants can light the Chanukah menorah on the RegentSea yacht while cruising through Marina del Rey and meet new friends for a twilight sail and enjoy latkes, jelly doughnuts, an auction, music, dancing, and a magician for the kid in everyone, says a Chabad representative, adding, “We will need miracles to happen to us on an individual level and may the sparks of Chanukah on the water enlighten our lives.”
This Chanukah highlights the addition to the Marina community of Rabbi Mendy Avtzon and his wife Dini from New York, who are planning evening classes with topics that will interest everyone.
