The Santa Monica Playhouse is offering a special deal for its 25th anniversary production of Cinderella: The Musical in honor of Valentine’s Day weekend on Saturday and Sunday, February 14th and 15th.

In recognition of the romance-themed holiday, the Playhouse is offering two tickets for the price of one at both the 12:30 and 3 p.m. performances February 14th and 15th. Cinderella: The Musical, a Rudie-DeCarlo classic, has thrilled more than a quarter of a million audience members to date, according to the Playhouse.

The featured presentation for “The Year of the Glass Slipper,” a year-long celebration of all things Cinderella, the musical is the single-most requested Santa Monica Playhouse Family Theatre musical on three continents and was voted Playhouse audience favorite for the 13th year in a row, Playhouse staff said. The production is playing every weekend this year through December 27th.

Twenty-five years after the original internationally-acclaimed Rudie-DeCarlo musical Cinderella debuted as part of the Playhouse Musical Matinee Series, after nearly two dozen tours to England, Alaska and Japan, and after delighting more than a quarter of a million audience members to date, this beloved heroine is being feted with an entire year’s worth of special events, activities and alumni guest performances, Playhouse staff said. The theater itself has been transformed into a magical Cinderella house.

Written and directed by the creative team of Chris DeCarlo and Evelyn Rudie, the January-February-March 2009 cast includes Celeste Akiki, Leah Artenian, James Cooper, Melissa Gentry, Cydne Moore, Jackie Murray, Angela Tuckerman, and original cast member John Waroff, who has been playing the role of befuddled King Osgood Isgood since the show opened in 1984.

The period costumes are by award-winning designer Ashley Hayes. Special effects, including dancing flowers, a magical broom, talking animals and musical cups and saucers are created by FX master James Cooper.

The Valentine’s Day special is sponsored by Cotkin and Collins, the Edith and Emery Bernauer Foundation and the Playhouse PALS. Regular tickets are $12.50 for adults and $10.50 for children. Purchase one and get the second of equal or lesser value for free. The offer is good for either the 12:30 or 3 p.m. show February 14th and February 15th, but seating is limited and reservations are recommended. Information, Playhouse box office at (310) 394-9779 ext. 2.

For the younger viewers, a Valentine’s “Year of the Glass Slipper” Cinderella-themed Enchanted Lunchtime Fairytale Theatre Mommy or Daddy and Me adventure for ages three to six is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 17th.
