The City of Santa Monica has received a $113,241 grant from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment to help conserve and install the historic Stanton Macdonald Wright mural service.

The Smithsonian Institute recently returned the murals to Santa Monica for placement in the newly renovated Santa Monica Main Library.

The mural series was originally created and installed in 1935 in the library reading room.

Titled “Technical and Imaginative Pursuit of Early Man,” the murals consist of 38 painted plywood panels that detail creative arts and sciences from the Stone Age to the motion picture industry.
