Venice Boulevard between the beach and Fairfax Avenue will be closed from 6:20 a.m. until approximately 10:15 a.m. Sunday, September 12th, for the Fifth Annual City of Los Angeles Triathlon.
More than 2,000 amateur and elite triathletes are expected to participate in the event.
The event will start on Venice Beach and continue to downtown Los Angeles.
Venice Beach start times will be:
n 7 a.m. for the Olympic distance amateur division;
n 8:15 a.m. for the Sprint distance competitors and
n 9 a.m. for the Elite athletes.
The last athlete should cross the finish line at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles by noon.
The Elite athletes will be competing for $35,000 in prize money.
The City of Los Angeles Triathlon will have the same distances as Olympic events:
n a 1.5-kilometer (0.9-mile) swim;
n a 40-kilometer (24.8-mile) cycle; and
n a ten-kilometer (6.2-mile) run.
