Principal urban designer for the Los Angeles Department of City Planning Simon Pastucha has been appointed to the Marina del Rey Design Control Board by Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, who represents the Third District.

Pastucha said he lives without a car in the Los Angeles region, and has been a city planner since 1989, beginning his planning career as a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a degree in landscape architecture, emphasizing sustainability and large development projects.

His experience covers projects worth over $20 billion and he created and supervised the Expedited Processing Section of the Los Angeles Department of City Planning, which sets records for reducing the time from application to written decision.

Pastucha is with the Urban Design Studio, part of the Planning Department, which is charged with integrating urban design into the development of city policy by doing real planning, being efficient and effective, developing innovative solutions and engaging the commun-


He was also a key part of the Charter Implementation Unit of the city planning department, where a small team brought the existing land use codes into compliance with the new city charter.
