CityTV of Santa Monica won four awards, including the top award for overall excellence, at the STAR Awards ceremony in Long Beach June 3rd.
This is the eighth time in 12 years that CityTV of Santa Monica has won the STAR overall excellence award, a CityTV spokesperson said. The station, which is the government community cable channel for the City of Santa Monica, also won first place in the promo, environmental program, and performing arts categories.
The States of California and Nevada Chapter (SCAN) of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) present the awards annually.
CityTV’s coverage of the Twilight Dance Series performance by the Squirrel Nut Zippers helped earn them a spot atop the performing arts podium. The Santa Monica Public Library Living Room video won the station first prize for the promotions category, while its eco-friendly “Be Green” videos granted CityTV first place in the environment category.
The station also received second place for public service announcements, second place for public meeting coverage, and third place in the training category.
CityTV is funded, programmed and operated by the City of Santa Monica. The channel is available to every cable television subscriber within the City of Santa Monica and reaches approximately 24,000 households.
