Joe Young, chair of the Airport-Marina group of the Sierra Club, will give a presentation entitled “Climate Change at the Edge of the Arctic” at the group’s meeting Monday, September 15th. The free meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m. in the Burton Chace Park Community Building, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and refreshments will be provided.
The presentation will feature Young’s two-week trip with Earthwatch to Churchill, Canada, where he says he looked for polar bears and measured changes in the depth of the permafrost and the mix of forest trees. Churchill is on the shore of the Hudson Bay in northern Manitoba, where the Northern Lights can be seen.
A world traveler, longtime Sierra Club member and a hiker, Young is active in the Hundred Peaks and Griffith Park sections.
