The Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women is seeking a new member to fill a recent vacancy.

The commission is authorized by the City of Santa Monica to advise City Council and city staff on how policies affect women and girls in the city.

Commissioners recently:

– reviewed city budget practices and budget impacts on women and girls;

– participated in community workshops that focused on a variety of topics such as domestic violence and childcare;

– developed a youth intern project for girls; and

– developed a cross-generation history project that brought together girls and women who are senior citizens.

This year, the commission hopes to implement recommendations that were included in the 2004 Report on the Status of Women and Girls in Santa Monica.

The report was formally presented to and accepted by the Santa Monica City Council.

Members are required to be Santa Monica residents.

Meetings are held the second Wednesday evening of every month at the Ken Edwards Center.
