Santa Monica College (SMC) has scheduled community meetings Wednesdays, October 7th and 14th to present its Career and Educational Facilities Master Plan 2009 Update and solicit public comments on the proposed project.
The October 14th meeting will also be held to receive public input with regard to potential environmental impacts that may occur as a result of the proposed project. Each meeting will be held at 7 p.m.
The October 7th meeting is at SMC’s Academy of Entertainment & Technology, Room 235, 1660 Stewart St., Santa Monica, while the October 14th event is on the main campus, Room 111 of the Business Building, 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica. Parking will be free, but parking on the main campus for the October 14th meeting requires a visitor permit, available at the parking kiosk next to the Business Building.
College officials say this is the first Master Plan update done since 1998. The plan, which identifies a number of projects that have since been completed or are in progress, was amended in 2007 to address facilities on the Bundy campus.
The proposed update incorporates current college facility planning, including projects approved by the voters of Santa Monica and Malibu in the Measure U, Measure S, and Measure AA elections, SMC officials said.
An environmental impact report (EIR) will be prepared for the proposed project. The Notice of Preparation is currently being circulated for a 30-day review period to solicit comments from trustee agencies, as well as interested parties on the scope of the draft EIR.
Copies of the draft Master Plan and environmental impact report initial study checklist are available at www.smc.edu/facilities_masterplan/.
