To support Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s project to plant one million trees throughout the city, the Venice Community Trust has established an arts initiative to help fund and maintain citywide tree-planting projects.
The initiative will culminate in fall 2007, when the Trust sponsors a festival of tree-related art — performances, exhibitions, and sales to celebrate the majesty of trees — called Art For One Million Trees.
Initiative backers will hold a reception at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 29th, at RavensWork Studios, 1611 Electric Ave., Venice.
The reception is free and hosted by the project’s co-chair, Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, who leads a blue ribbon advisory panel of business, community, and art leaders.
“Venice is the creative soul of Los Angeles and with its proximity to the ocean and the wetlands, its artistic vision has always been tied to the environment,” Rosendahl said.
