The Hearts of Fire Project, in association with Java With Javelyn, will hold its first ever concert by homeless people for the benefit of the homeless at the Talking Stick Coffee Lounge in Venice Friday, March 5th.

The event, scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Talking Stick, 1411 Lincoln Blvd. in Venice, will feature homeless and formerly homeless people performing original music and poetry.

In addition, the Hearts of Fire Project will display art work by homeless people and screen a short documentary film about the Hearts of Fire tour across America.

The Hearts of Fire Project is an Ojai-based organization that works to empower homeless people through artistic self-expression and bring this expression to the public through art shows, concerts and documentary films screenings.

Since it began in 2007, the project has traveled more than 7,000 miles visiting shelters and working with homeless people.

The organization is committed to supporting people without homes and helping them share their artistic contributions, a project spokesperson said.
