A final construction tour of the remodeled Santa Monica Place mall, scheduled to open Friday, Aug. 6, was held late last month.

Workers are completing the final details of the Macerich-owned Santa Monica Place, which has been undergoing renovation since March 2008, to transform the former mall into a three-level, open-air shopping center with a roof-top dining deck.

A new Bloomingdale’s department store will be taking the place of the former Macy’s, and a new Nordstrom department store is scheduled to open Friday, Aug. 27.

On opening day, Santa Monica-based radio station KCRW 89.9 FM DJ Jason Bentley, host of “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” will DJ the very first event of SunSets at Santa Monica Place.

SunSets, free to the public, will feature special appearances by DJs from KCRW, spinning tunes and providing a happy hour soundtrack. The event will continue on Friday evenings throughout Sept. from 5 to 7 p.m. on the rooftop dining deck.

The dining deck’s six chef-driven restaurants will offer special early evening menus and drink selections.
