The Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau (SMCVB) has appointed Joston Theney as its new hospitality and conference services manager.

Theney will serve as a liaison between the Convention & Visitors Bureau and Santa Monica’s 12,000 hospitality workers, ranging from valets and busboys to senior-level hoteliers, providing them with everything from maps and visitor guides to information about the destination and upcoming events, according to the bureau.

“Joston comes to us with an enriched background in customer service and guest relations,” said Misti Kerns, Convention & Visitors Bureau president and chief executive officer.

“His collaboration with Laurel Rosen, co-chair of the ‘I Know Santa Monica’ program for local hospitality employees is an invaluable part of the course curriculum, as [Convention & Visitors Bureau], Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce and Santa Monica College gear up to launch the program this fall,” Kerns added.

Theney’s duties will involve managing all three Convention & Visitors Bureau visitor center locations in Santa Monica — Santa Monica Walk-In Visitor Information Center, at 1920 Main St.; Santa Monica Visitor Information Kiosk, at 1400 Ocean Ave.; and Santa Monica Visitor Information Cart, on the Third Street Promenade.

He will also serve as bureau liaison for the Main Street Merchant’s Association, as well as coordinate with conventions and conferences that take place in the city to ensure that business services are offered.

In addition, Theney will act as an expert informational source for the city’s supporting hospitality staff, providing them with the most current updates on Santa Monica.

“I have a sincere passion for providing the very best in hospitality and guest services and am excited about my new position at [the Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau],” Theney said.
