Cornerstone Prep School — an independent charter school in Venice — has received high praise in a survey of parents after the school finished its first year of operation.

A recent school survey indicates that 90 percent of the parents surveyed approve of the education their children received from the school in kindergarten through seventh-grade classes.

“Teachers here have a quality of caring that extends beyond the classroom,” said Donna Elliott, who has three children at Cornerstone.

“I chose Cornerstone Prep School because they offer all-day kindergarten classes for my child,” said Janeth Castillo.

During the past school year, the school held kindergarten through sixth-grade classes at the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, 2232 Lincoln Blvd., Venice.

For the 2004-05 school year, which begins Thursday, September 9th, the school has added seventh-grade classes.

Sixth- and seventh-grade classes will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, while kindergarten through fifth-grade classes will move out of Venice to Western Avenue in south Los Angeles.

The school follows the same academic calendar as the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Cornerstone Prep School educates students by using personal education plans and the Johns Hopkins University “Success for All” curriculum.
