The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors has issued a reminder to the public that the annual Fourth of July fireworks display in Marina del Rey has been cancelled due to budget issues.

However, the elimination of this year’s show will not have an effect on the operations of other Marina del Rey services such as the Marina del Rey WaterBus and Beach Shuttle, county officials stressed.

“Cancelling this year’s Fourth of July fireworks display was a difficult decision to make because it is a popular event for the residents of Marina del Rey and Los Angeles County,” Beaches and Harbors Director Santos Kreimann said.

“However, spending thousands of dollars on a fireworks show while community programs and services are being cut would not be fiscally responsible during these tough economic times. We are doing everything possible to maintain our most popular programs, including the Summer Concert Series (at Burton Chace Park), while continuing our essential beach operations and maintenance activities.”

Officials note that the Marina’s restaurants, hotels and retailers will be open for visitors celebrating the Fourth of July weekend.
