Santa Claus visited Santa Monica early this year to help firefighters and police officers distribute good cheer and thousands of candy canes as part of the 17th annual “Candy Cane Drive.”

On December 5th Santa traveled around the city with his public safety helpers to meet with children in places such as Douglas Park, Christine Reed Park, the Third Street Promenade, Virginia Avenue Park, Marine Park and Clover Park.

Santa Monica children were notified of Santa’s arrival at each stop by the lights and sirens of the public safety vehicles.

The Santa Monica Firefighters Local 1109 division also took part in the spirit of giving by handing out toys to the ill and injured children who are hospitalized at the Mattel Children’s Hospital at the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center Tuesday, December 22nd.

The city firefighters believe that it is their duty to serve the public both on and off duty, to give back to their community and help those who are less fortunate, especially during the holidays.

They said they hope that events such as this show the community how important it is to take care of each other in tough times.
