The 25th annual Jet to Jetty run/walk event benefiting the Airport Marina Counseling Service of Westchester will be held at Dockweiler State Beach in Playa del Rey Saturday, August 22nd.

Jet to Jetty features a 5K run/walk, 10K run and Kids’ Fun Run, as well as exhibitors’ booths and prizes for runners.

Proceeds from the event benefit Airport Marina Counseling Service, a nonprofit, community-based mental health clinic which has provided affordable mental health services in the community since 1961. The clinic also provides training to mental health therapists.

Gates at Dockweiler Beach, Imperial Highway and Vista del Mar, will open at 6:30 a.m. for registration and packet pickup. The 5K walk/run is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with the 10K run at 8:30 a.m. The 1K Kids Fun Run for youngsters ten years and under will kick off at 9:45 a.m.

The 5K and 10K events start on Vista del Mar, with the finish line in the beach parking lot at the ocean end of Imperial Highway.

In-N-Out Burger will be on-site to provide its burgers and drinks for a nominal fee. Plenty of water and fruit will also be available for the runners.

In addition, tickets will be available for an opportunity drawing for $2,500 cash, made possible by a donation from The William H. Hannon Foundation. The drawing will be held on race day following the awards ceremony.

The Airport Marina Counseling Service Board of Directors has named Polly and John Garstka grand marshals of the 25th Jet to Jetty in honor of their participation in the event since its beginning, said Kathleen O’Leary Lefferman, executive director of the clinic.

Polly Garstka, a committee member for the first Jet to Jetty, has served as chair ten times during the ensuing years and is chair for this year’s event. She said the Westchester community has always strongly supported this event.

The race brings out at least 100 volunteers each year and during its 25-year history, planners estimate that those volunteers have contributed over 10,000 hours—of service working for Jet to Jetty. Sponsorships and ticket sales have raised more than $600,000, which Airport Marina Counseling Service has used to provide direct mental health services to individuals, children, youth and families in Westchester and surrounding areas.

Event fees are $30 for the 5K walk/run and 10K run. The $10 fee for the Kids Fun Run includes a free Jet to Jetty T-shirt and bib. All runners get a free Jet to Jetty T-shirt. Parking is $1 at the Dockweiler Beach lot.

To register online, Packet pickup is available on Friday, August 21st, between noon and 7 p.m. at the Top to Top athletic footwear and apparel store, 4224 Lincoln Blvd., near Marina del Rey.

Among the major sponsors for the 25th annual event are The William H. Hannon Foundation, The Drollinger Family Foundation, Westchester Mental Health Guild, The Guilded Cage, Playa Vista, and Los Angeles World Airports.
