A man is in stable condition after he was wounded in an apparent gang-related shooting on the Venice Boardwalk April 16, police said.
The shooting at about 6:30 p.m. at 17th Street and Ocean Front Walk prompted a large crowd to scatter across the boardwalk toward the beach and to stores and bus stops.
The groups of people had been notified to gather near the Venice Beach basketball courts for an event via Twitter, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman said. Some of the people in the crowd were believed to be alleged gang members, police said.
The victim, who is in his 20s, was shot twice during the incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, the LAPD spokeswoman said.
Police did not have any suspect description and no arrests have been made. The incident is under investigation by the LAPD Pacific gang unit.
