The South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club (SCCYC) and the Women’s Sailing Association of Santa Monica Bay (WSA) have scheduled a free seminar, “Cruising the Northern Channel Islands, A ‘How-To’ Guide to Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, and San Miguel Islands.”

The seminar is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 29th, with complimentary hospitality from 5 to 6 p.m., at The South Coast Corinthian Yacht Club, 13445 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey.

Yacht club members say that the islands in the Santa Barbara Channel are rewarding cruising grounds for local sailors who want to venture beyond Catalina Island.

Instructor Marc Hugston will discuss the best anchorages and coves of each island in the seminar, as well as route planning from the Marina del Rey area, weather, cove selection and local sailing directions.

Hugston also plans to use pictures and information gathered from many trips aboard Lucinda Mae, Alaska Eagle and smaller cruising boats.

Other seminar topics include bow and stern anchoring techniques in the islands, surviving Santa Ana winds, necessary cruising equipment, danger areas, points of interest and arranging island tours.

The seminar is on the same weekend as the Channel Islands-Marina del Rey Race hosted by Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club.
