Donna Sternberg & Dancers will present the dance performance Dis-Illusions at the Beach at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the Annenberg Community Beach House, 415 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica.
This is the third dance performance in a series exploring the concept of perception and memory, according to Sternberg’s dance company.
The site-specific performance uses the environment of the Annenberg Beach House, the site of the former Marion Davies Estate, to examine how place, personal interaction and costume affect both the dancers and audience in how they view, interpret and perceive what is occurring, Sternberg said.
Six dancers are accompanied by musicians Ken Christianson and Peggy Skomal, who aim to create a changing aural landscape that explores how sound affects perception, Sternberg noted.
Digital artist Michael Masucci will premiere a short film prior to the dance performance. In collaboration with Donna Sternberg & Dancers, the film was shot in the Davies guest house building and explores the themes of perception and memory through film and digital media.
Sternberg said the performance is a continuation of the company’s science series, which seeks to connect dance and science through the artistic interpretation of scientific principles.
Admission to the performance is free but reservations are required. For reservations, http://beachculture67-eorg.eventbrite.com.
