The Twilight Dance Series returns for its 24th annual presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26th, in a ten-week run of world-class musical performances at the Santa Monica Pier.

The series lineup has three premieres, a 30-year reunion, and attempts at world record-breaking dancing and stunts.

With the Bachata Roja Legends concert, Mike Farris and Carmen Consoli making their West Coast debuts, as well as the return of Peter and Gordon to Southern California for the first time since the 1960s, this season’s schedule is packed with a variety of offerings.

The One Hawai’i performance, scheduled for July 3rd, intends to break the world record of most hula dancers, says Ben Franz-Knight, Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corp.’s executive director.

There will also be a Red Bull-sponsored attempt on July 11th for a motorcycle jump, Franz-Knight says.

The performances themselves, though, are the main event, as all the acts have something different to offer, he says.

“I’ve been looking forward to Toots and the Maytals show on August 28th for quite some time,” Knight says. “They played on the Pier many years ago, and they’re a world-renowned reggae band returning to the Santa Monica Pier for our show.”

The series opens June 26th with ‘worldbeatnicks” The Bonedaddys and hip-hop “soullective” Crown City Rockers at 7 p.m. All shows are free to the public.

“The generous support of our sponsors, including presenting sponsor Amoeba and stage sponsor Naked Juice make it possible for us to continue these concerts free for the public every Thursday evening,” Franz-Knight says.

All concerts are free and begin at 7 p.m. on the west end of the Pier. Free valet parking for bicycles begins at 6:30 p.m.
