The Kybele Dance Theater, a contemporary dance company of five dancers, will present the multi-media dance performance Dreamcatcher at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 16th, and 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17th, at the Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Ave., Venice.
Dreamcatcher is a performance intended to “navigate the momentum of the human psyche somewhere between dream and reality,” show creator Seda Aybay says. The athletic contemporary modern vocabulary is “designed around different dimensions, representing the body, mind and soul working with and against each other,” Aybay says.
The choreography is by Aybay and videography is by Carl Owens. The performance’s original music is composed by Thai-Essence, with vocals by Nadia Sohaei.
Kybele Dance Theater pieces are often enhanced with props such as fans, scarves and folding chairs and are performed to music that combines ethnic with modern melodies. The group’s pieces encompass stories that are communicated through the living art form of dance.
Admission is $20 for general admission, $15 for students, and $35 for VIP tickets. VIP tickets entitle the holders to a gift from Kybele Dance Theater and a complimentary glass of champagne or other beverage of choice during intermission. Free parking is available on site.
