Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica is presenting Dancers Without Borders’ Translation: Missed Communications, a dance theater piece addressing communication across language barriers.

The performance is scheduled at 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, February 20th and 21st, at Highways, 1651 18th St., Santa Monica. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for members, students and seniors.

A combination of story and non-narrative performance, dance and theater, Translation uses vulnerability and humor to address the joys and struggles of communicating across language barriers, a Highways spokesperson said. The show will also include surprise guest performances from innovative Los Angeles artists who aim to contribute to the lexicon of work concerning language and translation, the spokesperson said.

Translation is choreographed, written and directed by dance theater artist Sarah Leddy, in collaboration with performers Lisa Wahlander, Tom Moose, Julieta Garza and Libby Buchanan. Music is composed and sound-designed by Moose.

Leddy has recently launched Dancers Without Borders, an ongoing performance project that aims to create dance and theater in a translational context. Her work has been performed in Los Angeles at Diavalo Dance Space, Anatomy Riot, Max 10 and Opening Moves.

She says her work is influenced by her studies with Anne Bogart and the SITI Company, and by her work as a Laban/Bartenieff Movement practicioner.
