The Los Angeles Chapter of Death Penalty Focus is holding an open house event from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 10th. The public is invited.
The event will be hosted at the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC) at 685 Venice Blvd., Venice.
Several guests will speak and answer questions, including Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Sgt. Sunil Dutta and Maria Chavez.
Dutta, author of “Kill The Death Penalty” in the February 26th issue of The Nation, works for the Planning and Research Division of the LAPD, and is completing a memoir, “From Punjab to South Central Los Angeles.”
Chavez works statewide with Death Penalty Focus and the ACLU to organize murder victims’ families who support abolition of the death penalty.
At the Open House event, Death Penalty Focus will provide updates on the current status of the death penalty in California as well as information concerning upcoming legislative actions.
The goal of this event is to “promote grassroots capacity building to work towards abolishing the death penalty in California,” according to a spokesman, who noted the event is not a fundraiser.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided at the Open House, along with information.
