The Del Rey Residents Association’s fall general meeting will feature Dr. John Deasy, superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District, as its guest speaker.
The meeting is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Marina Del Rey Middle School, 12500 Braddock Drive, Del Rey. Admission is free.
Deasy’s presentation, entitled “Progress in the Transformation of LAUSD,” will focus on the role of the education system in promoting economic and social well-being, said an event organizer.
Deasy has served as LAUSD superintendent since April 2011.
Prior to joining LAUSD, Deasy served as superintendent of Prince George’s County school district in Maryland, deputy director of education for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, superintendent of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, and as head of the Coventry Public Schools in Rhode Island.
