A homeless man was arrested Friday, December 10th, after he jumped over a counter at a Starbucks business in the 700 block of Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, punched an employee in the face, left the store and, once outside, assaulted an 80-year-old passerby in the area of Lincoln Boulevard and Montana Avenue, Santa Monica police allege.
Police say the suspect — whom they identified as Christopher Grant Williams, a 44-year-old transient — entered the business, began to create a disturbance and was asked to leave by an employee.
“The suspect jumped over the counter and struck the victim with his fist and left the store,” police allege.
Police say Williams fled the store and allegedly struck an 80-year-old man he encountered on the street repeatedly for no known reason.
Officers apprehended Williams after the second assault and Williams was identified by witnesses to the incidents, police say.
Williams was arrested and booked for elder abuse and assault and battery. His bail has been set at $50,000.
The Starbucks employee received a small laceration to his lip and reportedly did not require medical attention.
The 80-year-old victim had a laceration above his eyebrow and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and received four stitches.
