A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy has been charged with allegedly sexually molesting a 15-year-old girl whom he met while on duty at the Marina del Rey station, authorities said.
Kenneth Alexander, 45, has been charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with one count of oral copulation of a person under 16 and two counts of lewd act upon a child age 15, said Deputy District Attorney Bradley McCartt of the Sex Crimes Division.
Alexander was arrested Oct. 20 when he turned himself in to authorities at the sheriff’s station in Carson, district attorney spokeswoman Shiara Davila said. He was released after posting $115,000 bail.
The deputy allegedly met the 15-year-old girl while he was working on duty at the Marina Sheriff’s station in 2010 and responded to an investigation at her home, Davila said.
The suspected abuse reportedly occurred when the deputy met with the girl off-duty in View Park between Aug. 10, 2010 and Feb. 28, 2011, according to the criminal complaint.
An informant called the Los Angeles County Child Abuse Hotline Aug. 16 and a suspected child abuse report was taken, sheriff’s officials said.
After further investigation, detectives from the Sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau interviewed the victim. Sheriff’s investigators interviewed Alexander Sept. 19 after continuing to follow leads, and on the following day, Alexander was relieved of duty with pay pending further investigation, sheriff’s officials said.
As a result of the charges filed Oct. 20, the department suspended Alexander without pay, officials said.
Alexander is scheduled to appear for an arraignment at the Superior Court Airport Courthouse Nov. 10.
If convicted, Alexander faces a maximum prison term of four years, four months, Davila said.
