Digital collage artist Maureen Murphy will open her first solo art show, “In Search of the Present,” at Mystic Journey Bookstore, 1319 Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
Murphy, 73, said she was in her 60s when she took her love of collage digital, studying Photoshop and computer software at Santa Monica College.
“These classes opened up a whole new world for me – keeping me juicy and sharp,” Murphy said.
“I was lead to this wonderful opportunity by divine guidance, moving from one thing to another,
with my art show being the natural progression. In today’s world, there are so many sources for images, textures, workshops and digital art communities readily available to tap into in cyberspace, and information arrives at my computer terminal at any time of the day or night, without a delivery charge – imagine that.”
The 20 pieces in Murphy’s collection (ranging from $45- $575) will be on view for the months of February and March.
Murphy said she is currently working on a piece to honor the life of the late singer Etta James.
